Fulham retail director walks 30 miles for charity

IT’S all in a day’s work for Rupesh Shah, who joined other Central London-based Specsavers store partners and colleagues to complete 63,000 steps in support of two worthy children’s charities.

Covering a distance of 30 miles, visiting 22 Central London Specsavers stores, and passing many well-known London landmarks along the way, the dedicated team put their best foot forward in a collective effort to raise money for the National Deaf Children’s Society and the Royal Society for Blind Children.

Rupesh, who’s the retail director at Specsavers Fulham, says: ‘It’s a tough challenge walking 30 miles across the London streets in searing heat, but the team spirit has been incredibly motivating – we all kept each other going.

‘Raising much-needed funds for the two children’s charities ultimately provided my real determination to succeed, as hopefully the money will offer support to those children most in need.’

The team’s charity walk started at Specsavers Kilburn and included visiting stores in Kensington, Shepherd’s Bush, Hammersmith, Victoria and mid-City at Holborn, before concluding in North London at Specsavers Golders Green.

To date, the team has raised just over £2,600, which will be split between the two charities to provide invaluable support, advice and a network of professionals to assist those children who may have hearing loss, deafness or sight conditions.

Customers of Specsavers Fulham can benefit from state-of-the-art equipment, including an optical coherence tomography (OCT) machine. The 3D scan is an advanced diagnostic, eye-scanning equipment that can help detect eye conditions, including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, up to four years earlier than traditional methods. Currently this diagnostic test is on offer at an additional £5.

Specsavers recommend that adults have an eye test at least every two years, and children should visit every year. The NHS will cover the full cost of an eye test for anyone who qualifies. All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS-funded eye test.

For anyone who wants to check if their eyesight or hearing is in tip-top condition for 2024, you can contact Specsavers Fulham on 020 7471 0390 or you can also book online: https://www.specsavers.co.uk/stores/fulham
