King’s Cross builds on creative heritage with addition of Potato Art Studio and Cass Art

The King’s Cross Group today announces the arrival of Potato Art Studio and Cass Art, further strengthening King’s Cross as a destination for creativity, culture and design.

The two new occupiers will offer new ways for people to experience and participate in the creative life of the neighbourhood, joining an established ecosystem that spans Central Saint Martins, Lightroom, public art and a year-round programme of cultural events and installations.

Potato Art Studio is opening its third location at King’s Cross in early 2027, bringing an immersive and accessible creative concept to the estate across 1,340 sq ft. Combining activities including pottery painting, candle making and arts and crafts, Potato Art is designed to make creativity accessible to everyone by bringing people of all ages together to create through hands-on workshops.

Cass Art, a retailer providing high-quality art materials, joined the estate in September across 3,500 sq ft. Driven by a mission to encourage everyone to realise their creative potential, Cass Art partners with some of the UK’s leading art brands, galleries and creative institutions, including the National Portrait Gallery, Sky Arts and University of the Arts London. The retailer also works with local galleries and supports community art projects, helping to make art more accessible and encourage creative participation. Its arrival further strengthens King’s Cross’s established creative offer.

Both occupiers follow the recent announcement that the Group has completed a new 20-year lease with University of the Arts London (UAL), which will see Central Saint Martins expand its campus by 17,782 sq ft into the neighbouring Western Transit Shed. The deal strengthens the globally renowned creative institution’s presence at King’s Cross, where it has been based since 2011. Cass Art already has an established relationship with Central Saint Martins, having worked with the University for several decades to support local artists studying on site.

The two arrivals reflect the continued evolution of the retail and leisure offer at King’s Cross. The estate is home to more than 500,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and hospitality space, with a strategy focused on creating a distinctive mix of established brands, independent operators, everyday amenities and experiences that give people new reasons to spend time in the neighbourhood.

Jane Macdiarmid, Head of Retail Asset Management at The King’s Cross Group, said: “Creativity has always been part of the fabric of King’s Cross, so the arrival of Potato Art Studio and Cass Art is a natural fit for the estate. Both build on King’s Cross’s longstanding heritage as a place of creativity and design, adding something new to our diverse and vibrant retail offer.

We want King’s Cross to offer experiences that draw on the creativity already thriving here. Central Saint Martins is a major part of that, and these additions complement its presence in different ways. From Cass Art’s longstanding relationship with the university to the hands-on experiences offered by Potato Art Studio, they showcase the many opportunities on the estate for people to participate in our creative community.”
