London Calling!
Everyone has their own tastes when it comes to music, but in the Streets of London, there are five bands that have had more number ones than anyone else.
These are the bands that London Loves:
The Spice Girls – Formed in the Danceworks Studio on Balderton Street in Mayfair, Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger, and Posh brought tracks like Wannabe and 2 Become 1 to the world – as well as 7 other number ones.
The Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger is from Kent and Brian Jones from Gloucestershire, but the band came together in 1962 at the Marquee Club on Oxford Street. Hits range from Gimme Shelter to Sympathy for the Devil, and they’re still rolling on.
George Michael – Michael has been Carelessly Whispering 7 number ones in our ears since 1981, sometimes with Wham! and sometimes without, but it all started on Goodge Street.
Elton John – Elton John had at least one song in the Billboard top 100 for 31 consecutive years, and has produced music for every occasion.
Queen – While Queen are still going, now with Adam Lambert, their most famous songs stem from their Freddie Mercury era, including We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody. They’ve had 6 number one hits since 1970.
