Wimbledon’s Cannizaro Park launches Nature Weekend this May

Celebrate the return of spring and experience the wonder of nature at Cannizaro Park’s Nature Weekend taking place on Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 May in the Park.

The two-day celebration in Wimbledon’s Grade II listed park has a packed programme of activities designed to help children and adults alike develop their knowledge of the Park and explore its hidden treasures.

Activities include guided bird walks and a guided bat walk as well as free planting, nature trails, tree dressing, plus a special visit from Fudge, a Shetland pony from neighbouring Wimbledon Stables.

Nature trails, planting & guided walks at new Nature Weekend

Saturday 22 May

· 08.00 – 09.30: Guided Bird Walk – to discover of the variety of species who call the Park home. Led by local bird expert Adrian Podmore, responsible for bird monitoring in neighbouring Wimbledon Common.

· 11.00 – 12.00: Meet ‘The Fantastic Mr Fudge’ (free) – a marvellous (and mischievous) Miniature Shetland pony from Wimbledon Stables.

· 11:00 – 15:00: Nature Trail (free) – an activity sheet enabling children of all ages to enjoy a magical mystery tour of the Park, discovering its animals, art and famous trees.

· 20.30 – 22.00: Guided Bat Walk – search for these mysterious mammals with local bat enthusiast, Elliot Newton. Use bat detectors to scan the skies and learn all about their lives and the threats they face. An exciting evening of discovery and a unique opportunity to explore the Park at night!

Sunday 23 May

· 08.30 – 10.00: Guided Bird Walk – find and identify a selection of our feathered friends with expert guidance from the RSPB Richmond & Twickenham Local Group.

· 12.00 – 15.00: Planting and potting (free) – Children of all ages are invited to join the Park’s green-fingered team in planting some fantastic flowers in the Park. Head to the Italian Garden where families can also enjoy tree decorating and take away some seasonal sunflowers to grow at home.

· 12:00 – 15:00: Nature Trail (free) – an activity sheet enabling children of all ages to enjoy a magical mystery tour of the Park, discovering its animals, art and famous trees.

· 14.00 – 15.00: Meet ‘The Fantastic Mr Fudge’ (free) – a marvellous (and mischievous) Miniature Shetland pony from Wimbledon Stables.
