London’s best-kept secret gardens will be revealed once again as London Open Gardens 2025 welcomes visitors to explore more than 100 private and lesser-seen green spaces across the capital, for one weekend only on 7 & 8 June. These hidden gems, usually closed to the public, will open their gates offering an exclusive glimpse into some of London’s most beautiful and historic gardens.

Among the highlights of this year’s event is a rare opportunity to visit the garden of 10 Downing Street. Access is only available via a free public ballot, giving lucky visitors the chance to join a guided tour on Saturday 7 June at either 11.30am or 1.30pm.

Discover No. 10’s historic garden

Constructed in 1736, the Downing Street garden is steeped in history and has hosted world leaders for nearly 300 years. Visitors on the guided tour will:

Explore the garden of the residence which has welcomed countless Premiers and Presidents for almost 300 years

Visit a sweeping open lawn and beautifully maintained rose beds, originally commissioned by the late Baroness Thatcher

See a striking bronze sculpture by renowned artist Barbara Hepworth

More to explore

London Open Gardens, organised by the charity London Parks and Gardens Trust (LPG), offers ticket holders access to an array of enchanting green spaces, from historic courtyards to lush rooftop gardens. New participating gardens for 2025 include:

Battersea Roof Gardens – one of London’s largest residential rooftop gardens (entry via ballot for LOG ticket holders.)

Marlborough House Gardens – formerly the grand mansion of Sir Christopher Wren, now home to the Commonwealth Secretariat

The Sanctuary Garden at Freedom from Torture – a Chelsea Flower Show 2024 silver medal winner, now repurposed in Finsbury Park to support horticultural therapy for survivors of torture

A weekend of green discoveries

London Open Gardens, now in its 26th year isn’t just about seeing beautiful places, it’s about understanding and protecting London’s green heritage, a capital city where only 18% of green spaces are accessible to public. Tim Webb, Director of London Parks and Gardens, emphasises the importance of the event: “Our mission is to protect London’s green spaces old and new; to ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations and to make them more accessible for everyone to visit and enjoy. So it’s an honour to have Downing Street join us alongside over 100 hidden green spaces, giving people a chance to see inside a garden that otherwise isn’t open to public.”

Each ticket sold supports the work of London Parks and Gardens (LPG), enabling the charity to protect London’s historic green spaces throughout the year.
