As we mark 300 days of conflict in Gaza, we mark 300 days of bloodshed, starvation, livestreamed massacres, and unthinkable crimes against humanity.
The ongoing hostilities have resulted in unacceptable casualties. Over 40,000 deaths later and 1.9 million displaced Palestinians later, the call for a ceasefire is more urgent than ever.
Muslim Aid has been Serving Humanity in Gaza since 2006 and we have been responding to this current emergency for the last 300 days by providing food vouchers for 407 families, distributed 3,540 medical kits, psychosocial support for 3,200 women and children, emergency cash for 230 families, 1,000 units of medicine, clothes to 2580 children, and many more.
We even provided 60,000 meals in northern Gaza, where the World Food Programme said has reached ‘full blown famine’, throughout Ramadan at the time they needed us the most.
With the severity of the situation, Muslim Aid refuses to stop at humanitarian work. We remained firm in our calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors, taking up space in support of Palestine.
Our work was mentioned in hosted an event in Parliament on 6 March, have been featured on the BBC and other media outlets, and have hosted various in-person community fundraising events for Gaza where we educated the public about the importance of advocating for human rights.
We raised awareness for the rights of civilians, civilian institutions, and specialist causes such as our ‘Women are not a Target, period’ campaign, which highlighted the importance of menstrual health in Gaza.
A ceasefire is essential to halt the bloodshed, allow for the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid, and provide space for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace and justice.
Palestinians in Gaza, like all people, have the right to live in peace and security. Not one child in the besieged enclave has been left unharmed by the conflict, whether physically or psychologically and this is a tragedy that cannot continue.
Muslim Aid continues its call on international organisations and governments to increase their efforts ensuring the implementation of a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors. Let us not allow another day of suffering to pass and collectively work to be on the right side of history.
