For some, a day at the park is enough. For others, it’s not nearly enough. Some people crave more of a challenge and that’s why they head out into the great outdoors for an outdoor adventure – whether they be hiking, camping or fishing. There are many things to consider when packing your bag for an outdoor adventure so let’s get you started with six items that can’t be left behind!
Gearing up
Every outdoor adventure requires some basic necessities, but some of the necessities are really quite important. One thing you need to bring is a backpack that can carry everything. It should be big enough for all the essentials, but small enough to fit comfortably on your back. It’s better to have a smaller backpack rather than one that is too big and will not effectively carry your stuff. A quick overview of commonly used equipment at survivalgearshack.com will show you what other people have used when out on the trails. This can be of great help if you are a beginner.
But the 8 things nobody can do without on an outdoor adventure are:
-
A camping tent
Tents are a necessity for any camping trip, and you will need something to keep you dry and safe from rain. Most tents come in different shapes, sizes, colors, materials, and even set-up methods. So if you’re looking for a lightweight option that can fit your entire group of friends then go with a dome shelter while if you like the extra roominess of the teepee design then those are also available too. The choice is really up to personal preference but what matters most is having one at all times during your trip so that it’ll protect you from harsh weather conditions and insects when necessary.
-
An air mattress
Camping mattresses used to be made of metal, but nowadays they are either inflatable or foam. Whatever you get, don’t forget to bring a pump too so you can easily adjust the firmness of your mattress depending on what’s most comfortable for you.
-
A lantern and/or flashlight
Bringing a lantern is a great idea as it’ll light up most of the area around where you’re sitting and there’ll be no need to stumble in the dark while walking towards your tent which can sometimes cause accidents especially if you have kids that like to play around during darkness. If setting up camp at night is not an option then bringing along flashlights will work just as fine. These are available in battery-powered, rechargeable, and solar-powered varieties with LED, fluorescent and incandescent bulbs or even a combination of all three. But whatever it is just make sure that your flashlight has at least 65 lumens.
-
Water purifying tablets/filters
You’ll need water in order for everything else to work out but only drink from clean sources such as springs, streams, faucets, and wells. If your water source is polluted or if you feel that it’s not enough to hydrate you then you may want to bring along some purifying tablets or a filter so nothing will go wrong with your trip.
-
A set of binoculars
Binoculars will allow you to observe the surroundings and wildlife from a long distance away. Not only that but it’ll also be able to capture their movements and actions once you focus them on what or who you want. They’re lightweight, compact, easy to carry around which is perfect for outdoor adventures as they won’t take up much space just like your backpack. This way, everything stays organized without having to stop at any place or store in order to buy stuff such as binoculars that are needed for an outdoor adventure.
-
A rain jacket and/or poncho
Everyone knows the basics when going outdoors which include bringing an umbrella for rainy days but most forget what they really are good for which is protecting people from getting wet underneath. Umbrellas are effective at blocking out the contact of falling raindrops so even though walking underneath them can still get you wet in some cases it’ll be fine as long as the user stays within its coverage area. And while we’re on this topic a poncho provides better protection than an umbrella. Rain jackets are also a good alternative to this but not as effective and also require extra storage space in your backpack.
-
Swiss army knife
Swiss army knives need no introduction as they are one of the most popular items in the world. These are multipurpose tools that include a blade and a screwdriver and you’ll be able to do just about anything with them without any problem. They are lightweight, stainless steel, and compact which makes it easier to bring on an outdoor adventure where space is limited. If you have the option to choose between a single blade knife or a Swiss army knife then go for the latter because it’ll be a lot more versatile and useful when needed.
-
First aid kit
A first aid kit comes in handy when you’re going on an outdoor adventure because you never know what kind of accidents could happen. This kit can come in handy for small cuts, burns, and insect bites too. The kit is something that should be prepared beforehand so that it’ll have everything that’s needed in case of an emergency.
Furthermore, a first aid kit is not intended to replace medical attention so it should only be used for minor and temporary injuries. Don’t use it to treat something that requires stitches or an emergency evacuation because you never know what could happen afterward if improperly treated. If you feel that your health is too bad to continue on with the adventure then don’t hesitate and get out immediately.
