The University of East London (UEL) has launched UEL USA, bringing UEL’s unique careers-first model to American learners.

UEL USA is a private, not-for-profit higher education institution in Florida which will deliver undergraduate and master’s degrees from January 2027, and Professional and Executive Education training starting in November.

A special partnership with Indian River State College on Florida’s Treasure Coast will provide pathways for learners — particularly those with two-year associate degrees — to top up/complete bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees.

Professor Amanda Broderick, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of East London, said, “Knowledge alone is no longer enough in today’s rapidly shifting global economy. Launching UEL USA marks a transformative leap in our Vision 2028 strategy, extending our unapologetically careers-first model directly into Florida. Working alongside our forward-thinking industry partners, we are breaking down traditional barriers to higher education, equipping US students with the Mental Wealth, professional fitness and real-world credentials required to lead, adapt and succeed in today’s workplace.”

UEL USA has been granted an institutional license by the Florida Commission for Independent Education. It marks a significant step in UEL’s global strategy, which seeks to not simply extend the delivery of UK higher education overseas but to bring UEL’s unique approach across international borders, creating opportunities for students, businesses and communities to benefit from the resources and connections of UEL’s international network. UEL USA is working with employers to develop courses tailored to their workforce needs, helping organizations develop talent, strengthen leadership capabilities and respond to emerging industry challenges.

UEL USA’s initial academic operations will be in south Florida, including facilities at Fort Lauderdale’s Chase Stadium with the Global Institute of Sport. UEL USA will also operate at campuses owned by Indian River State College, which serves more than 24,000 students on the state’s Treasure Coast. The partnership with Indian River State College will allow the college’s associate degree holders to progress into one-year bachelor’s programs in areas including Digital Media & Communication Enterprise; Applied Behavioral Science and Business Management & Innovation.

UEL USA is also rolling out six career-aligned one-year master’s degree programs in Cyber Security Engineering; Public Health; Marketing; Media and Communication Industries; eSports Management; and Professional MBA. The Professional and Executive Training programme will cover 19 areas.

Dr Heather Belmont, Provost, Indian River State College, said, “Our work with the University of East London USA is focused on making advanced and professional learning more accessible to the region. The bachelor’s and master’s programs address fields with clear relevance to today’s economy, and the professional and executive education programs give working people flexible opportunities to strengthen specific capabilities. Together, the institutions can connect our community with international ideas while building the talent local employers need.”

Keith Scott, His Majesty’s Consul General in Miami, British Consulate-General Miami, said, “The launch of UEL USA offers a welcome opportunity to strengthen the connections between the United Kingdom and Florida. By bringing together education, employers and innovation partners, this initiative can create new opportunities for students and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.”
