Enable, the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enriching lives through health & wellbeing, volunteering, and world-class events, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The charity also specialises in park management, bereavement and leisure services, filming throughout Battersea and the management of Putney School of Art & Design.
Since its founding in 2015, Enable has grown into a cornerstone of community life in Wandsworth and beyond. From staging landmark events such as Battersea Park Fireworks and Battersea Park in Concert, to delivering vital programmes that connect communities across London, Enable has touched the lives of thousands of people over the past decade.
Events
Enable has delivered some of London’s most loved community events, including Battersea Park in Concert, Battersea Park Fireworks, Country on the Common, and Wandsworth’s Big Play Out. These flagship events have brought people together from across the city, supporting local businesses and boosting the local economy through tourism and employment.
Health & Wellbeing
Starting out in Wandsworth, Enable’s Health & Wellbeing services have now reached communities in 10 London boroughs. In 2019, we launched Wandsworth’s first-ever social prescribing service, which has since won multiple national awards for excellence in social prescribing and personalised care. We have continued to innovate new delivery models, supporting cancer patients, young people, and embedding wellbeing programmes directly into hospitals and social care teams.
Growth and Impact
Over the past decade, Enable has grown significantly – employing more people, expanding services, and contributing more to the local economy.
Resilience through Covid-19
During the pandemic, Enable demonstrated its ability to adapt and respond. While some staff were furloughed, others continued to deliver critical services, from bereavement support to Covid testing centres set up in partnership with local authorities. Our Health & Wellbeing teams pivoted quickly to provide direct, immediate support to residents when they needed it most.
Enable is also using this milestone to look forward, with plans to expand its wellbeing programmes, grow volunteering opportunities, and deliver even more inclusive, sustainable events for local communities.
In the years ahead, Enable will:
Tackle loneliness by creating spaces and opportunities for people to connect and belong.
Transform volunteering, making it easier and more rewarding for local people to give their time and skills.
Support communities to thrive through inclusive, accessible programmes that strengthen local networks.
Innovate by finding new ways of working – grounded in understanding local needs, working closely with local communities, and focusing on making a lasting difference.
Ian Mitchell, Enable Chief Executive says:
“Over the last 10 years, Enable has been proud to create opportunities that bring people together, improve wellbeing, and celebrate the incredible spirit of our communities. As we look ahead, our ambition is to grow our reach and ensure that everyone has access to services that inspire and support them.”
