From the 3rd-6th of June 2024, a team of 12 people, including medical professionals from Frimley Hospital, will be attempting to row 1,000,000 metres non-stop as a team on a Concept2 rowing machine.
The challenge will set a Guinness World Record™ as long as it’s completed within 61 hours, 58 minutes, and 41 seconds.
The funds raised will go towards the Momentum in Fitness Charity. Gihan Ganesh, an anaesthetist who started the challenge, was inspired by the treatment his daughter received when diagnosed with a rare, complex and advanced pelvic tumour at the age of one.

“There will always be a time before that day in 2022 and a time after. The time after will remain the darkest of times, where fear and uncertainty ruled our lives. It asked so much of her as she faced a lifetime’s worth of challenges, and we dedicated our lives to support her. She was cared for by the team on Piam Brown Ward, Southampton Children’s Hospital became our surrogate family and provided our daughter with the expert care she desperately needed. Despite the huge obstacles to clear and the odds against us, we now have our daughter back. She is now unrecognisable as a cancer survivor and a truly astonishing little girl who makes the world a better place.”
Gihan and his team aim to raise £1,000 for every day their daughter was in active care, totalling up to £169,000.
