Alexandra Palace’s first-ever Women’s National Ice Hockey League (WNIHL), and reigning league and cup champions, the Haringey Greyhounds, will celebrate International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March with a home game against the Slough Sirens.

Founded in 2024, the Greyhounds made an immediate impact on the Women’s National Ice Hockey League, winning the Division 2 South B title in their debut season, with nine wins and just one loss. The team has since progressed into Division 2 South A for the current season and looks set to replicate that success.

Led and created by Kirsty Bard, General Manager at Alexandra Palace Ice Rink, alongside team manager, Olga Glazer and Captain, Hannah Dolan Davies, the Greyhounds represent a new era for women’s ice hockey in Haringey. The team has quickly become a focal point for the growth of the women’s game locally, with increasing numbers of women and girls playing ice hockey and attendances at home Alexandra Palace games continuing to rise.

“What’s been really exciting is seeing attendance at the games grow week on week,” says Alexandra Palace Ice Rink General Manager, Kirsty Bard. “It shows the transformation and growth happening in women’s ice hockey. This team is making its mark, not just through performance, but through our vision for the game and the desire to be part of positive change. There’s a real sense of momentum around women’s ice hockey here, and people want to be part of it.”

Ice hockey in Haringey is proudly inclusive, and the growth of the women’s game is helping to pave the way for the next generation. The Greyhounds are working to reduce barriers to participation, making ice hockey more accessible and inclusive for women and girls from all backgrounds, both as players and as spectators.

“It’s a welcoming space to develop skills, build confidence and create lasting friendships,” adds Bard, who previously founded Cambridge’s first female ice hockey club, Cambridge Kodiaks. “Whether that’s playing competitively or simply being on the ice, there is a place for everyone.”

The team is captained by Hannah Dolan Davies, who began her journey at Alexandra Palace at just six years old. Starting out in competitive figure skating, she went on to perform with ‘Disney on Ice’ before returning to Ally Pally as a coach following her retirement from figure skating. She leads the ice hockey team by embodying the inclusive and community-driven spirit of the club.

2026 marks the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day, a global milestone celebrating collective action, advocacy and progress towards gender equality. Sunday 8 March provides an opportunity to recognise achievements, reflect on progress and celebrate women and girls in sport.

“I’m incredibly proud of our home women’s ice hockey team at Alexandra Palace,” says Emma Dagnes OBE, Chief Executive of Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust. “They represent inspiring role models and a positive vision for the future of the game for women and girls. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate International Women’s Day at Ally Pally than with the Haringey Greyhounds; seeing the team achieve their goals, build confidence and help make ice hockey more accessible in our borough and beyond.”

Join us at Alexandra Palace this International Women’s Day to celebrate women in sport and cheer on the Greyhounds. “Let’s Go Greyhounds, Let’s Go!”
