London Transport Museum is once again throwing open the doors to its Museum Depot in Acton, west London. From Friday 6 to Sunday 8 June, visitors of all ages can enjoy
a fun day of green-themed transport activities, in celebration of how sustainable engineering and changing technology have helped evolve the city’s transport network.
Engineering fans can test their STEM skills by building sustainable cars which use
wind and solar power, and celebrate technological and sustainable transport past, present and future in the
STEM zone. STEM activities include joining TfL’s Systems Performance team as they demonstrate different technology used on London Underground and let visitors try out VirtuRail and RailVR.
Budding conservationists can create their very own wildlife corridor photo collage in
London Overgrown. This immersive session shows how plants and wildlife are reclaiming stations and tracks no longer used by the network.
There will also be a range of in-person talks from experts across the Museum. On Saturday 7 June, London Transport Museum’s Head Curator Matthew Brosnan, will be hosting Electric London. This insightful talk will look at how electricity has sustainably powered much of London’s public transport network, from the late nineteenth century to the present day.
Across the weekend, the Museum’s knowledgeable volunteers will be welcoming visitors to their popular
Shed Talks. These fun and informative 10-minute chats will speed through the history of bus power.
On the morning of Friday 6 and Saturday 7 June, the 10:00-11:00 entrance time slot will be reserved for those with special educational needs and disabilities, to ensure
a quiet and warm welcome to the Museum Depot.
Admission to the All Signals Green Museum Depot Open Days
is £19 for adults and £10 for children with a discounted entry of £15 for adults and £6 for children living in the London boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow.
The Museum Depot is a two-minute walk from Acton Town underground station, which is served by the Piccadilly and District lines. The closest bus stops to the Museum Depot
are Gunnersbury Lane (Acton Town station) served by the number 70 and E3 buses.
The
All Signals Green Museum Depot Open Days event are part of London Transport Museum’s Enjoyment to Employment programme, a collective response that tackles the engineering and green skills shortage in the UK transport sector by turning childhood enthusiasm
into future careers. This important education and social impact work is only possible thanks to our industry partners ABM, Cubic Transportation Systems, Hitachi Rail, Sopra Steria, Telent and Transport for London and support from John Lyon’s Charity, Kusuma
Trust, London Transport Museum Friends and Luke Rees-Pulley Charitable Trust.
