The North West of England has dominated the Premier League for the last eight seasons, with only Liverpool and Manchester City getting their hands on the prestigious trophy.
It was in the 2016/17 campaign that a London club last won the English crown, and Arsenal and Chelsea will be hoping they can end the wait to bring the trophy back to the capital this season.
Gunners Determined to Overcome Final Hurdle
Finishing second in each of the last three Premier League seasons, Arsenal have been issued the unwanted tag of being the nearly men of the English top flight. Mikel Arteta’s side, who are 9/4 with Premier League winner bets to lift the trophy, finished 10 points behind champions Liverpool last season.
So, for those looking to place a football bet on the Premier League, Arsenal may be a solid choice. However, despite being a team built on a solid defence and a strong midfield, Arsenal have perhaps lacked that out-and-out goalscorer to help deliver a first Premier League title since 2004.
The Gunners have looked to address their lack of a star central striker with the addition of Viktor Gyökeres to their squad this summer. Fending off interest from Premier League rivals and teams on the continent, the north London outfit managed to finally get a deal over the line for the talented Sweden international. A player who scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP in all competitions, it’s clear why Arsenal were so determined to bring Gyökeres to north London. Arteta might have just found the final piece of the puzzle, as Arsenal desperately look to go one place better in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea Gaining Ground
After just edging their way into the Champions League places at the end of last season, Chelsea went on to earn big money by winning the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States over the summer. There were some questions raised when Enzo Maresca was appointed Chelsea boss in June 2024, after helping Leicester City win the 2023/24 Championship title. However, the Italian has silenced his doubters and has managed to take a firm grip on a somewhat bloated squad at Stamford Bridge. Bringing together a core group and moving on unwanted players, Maresca is starting to have an impact on a Chelsea side that also managed to win the Conference League title last season.
Bringing in a number of talented players this summer who can be the future of Chelsea for years to come, the club are clearly looking to the long term as well as the here and now. While that’s good for the club, Maresca knows that a manager is rarely afforded time to build a project at Stamford Bridge, and he will be determined to see his side mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Chelsea were the last London club to win the Premier League title, lifting the famous trophy in 2017. Both the Blues and the Gunners have waited long enough for Premier League glory, and both clubs will be going all out to bring the trophy back from the North West of Engl!!and to the capital.
