After building a cult following across India and Dubai, China Bistro is bringing its bold, spice-fuelled take on retro-Chinese cooking, also known as Tangra cuisine, to London, landing in Ealing Broadway this month.
The 90-cover restaurant has officially opened its doors, with a 50% off food soft launch running until 14th November.
Where Hakka Woks Meet Indian Fire
China Bistro’s food tells the story of Tangra, a neighbourhood in Kolkata where Chinese Hakka immigrants settled in the 1930s and began cooking with Indian spices. The result is a menu of fiery, flavour-packed dishes that bridge two culinary worlds.
Guests can expect hand-folded dumplings, live robata grills, and plates designed for sharing.
Start with small plates like Honey Chilli Lotus Stem or 1990’s Hakka Chilli Chicken, then move on to Smoked Chilli Paneer or the signature Chicken Basil Dumplings.
From the robata, Togarashi Wagyu, Ebi Yaki (prawns glazed with honey and mustard) and Spicy Paneer Kushiyaki arrive straight from the grill.
For mains, try Kung Pao Chicken, Prawn Hunan Style, or Sliced Beef Black Pepper, best enjoyed with a bowl of Wok-Tossed Hakka Noodles and shared around the table.
Desserts include Buddha’s Fu Mango Pudding, crispy honey-drizzled Darsaan, and Pistachio Cheesecake.
Cocktails Inspired by Asian Side Streets
The drinks menu channels the energy of Shanghai, Tokyo and Mumbai, divided into imagined neighbourhoods like Fermentation Lane and Spicy Alley.
Try the Chinese Negroni, made with rambutan and donating £1 from each sale to Ealing Foodbank, or the Tamarind Chu Hi, with lemongrass Aperol and Prosecco. There’s also a Chinese Old Fashioned, featuring coconut and charcoal-infused bourbon, and Coffee & Conversations, a dessert cocktail blending Frangelico, Kahlua and whipped cream.
Wine and sake have been curated to complement spice and umami, with a focus on organic, biodynamic and low-intervention bottles from Europe and Asia.
The Space
The interiors blend olive green and terracotta tones with timber and bronze details that nod to the Terracotta Warriors. A striking central bar anchors the space, while a light-filled dining room at the rear offers a warm, inviting setting for larger gatherings and private celebrations.
Adding to the buzz, live music every weekend transforms the restaurant into a lively late-night spot,
From live robata grills to weekend music sessions, China Bistro brings the fire, flavour and flair of Tangra cuisine to the heart of West London.
