This September, love will once again take centre stage as Backyard Cinema’s critically acclaimed production of Romeo + Juliet comes to the iconic Union Chapel, London, for a breathtaking three-day cinematic residency. From 11th to 13th September 2025, audiences will be transported into the heart of Verona during evening performances at 7:30pm, with a special 2:30pm matinee on Saturday.
This isn’t just a film screening — it’s a fully immersive journey. Guests will step into the atmospheric surroundings of Union Chapel, with its stunning Gothic architecture and candlelit ambience, setting the perfect stage for Shakespeare’s timeless love story. As Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 cult classic unfolds on screen, a live choir and band will perform unforgettable hits from the original soundtrack — including “Young Hearts Run Free,” “Everybody’s Free,” “Kissing You,” and “When Doves Cry.” The result? A multi-sensory experience that blends cinema, theatre, and live music like nothing else in the UK.
Over the past decade, Backyard Cinema has redefined the movie-going experience, growing from a DIY London project into one of the UK’s most innovative entertainment brands, attracting over half a million attendees. Their Romeo + Juliet production has sold out venues nationwide and earned glowing reviews for its daring and immersive format.
Union Chapel, with its soaring ceilings and intimate acoustics, offers an extraordinary backdrop for this unique production — amplifying the passion, drama, and emotion of one of cinema’s most iconic love stories.
