BARRATT LONDON BOOSTS BARNET’S CHILDREN IN CARE

Local housebuilder Barratt London, responsible for the Hendon Waterside development on Moorhen Drive, recently donated £1,000 to charity Live Unlimited to aide their support of children across Barnet who are in or have recently left the care system. The housebuilder’s donation will help the charity provide services to support young people in care who are particularly vulnerable and have been significantly impacted by the pandemic.

Live Unlimited’s initiatives help to reduce isolation, improve job prospects, and provide new skills to children in the care system. One such scheme is an outdoor activity experience offering those involved the opportunity to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and build connections and friendships, all whilst having fun.

For older children, the charity also provides driving lessons and tests, and has created a careers networking scheme for 16 to 25-year-olds which provides young people in care, and those who recently left the care system, with the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, receive careers coaching and support to help secure an entry level job, apprenticeship, or work experience placement.

Sue Cocker, Project Manager at Live Unlimited comments: “Barratt London’s contribution will allow us to increase access to our participatory experiences, training, and support schemes. Overall, children in care tend to have more limited opportunities than their peers living with birth families. This can result in less positive outcomes for them once they leave the system, so we appreciate Barratt London’s support which will enable us to help these young people fulfil their potential.”
Barratt London’s Community Fund scheme sees the housebuilder donate £1,000 a month to a registered charity or organisation working to help communities local to its developments thrive and create a positive legacy.

Ed McCoy, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt West London, comments: “Supporting small charities that provide essential services to their local area is hugely important to us at Barratt London. Our Community Fund scheme was designed and set up to benefit community groups and charities near to our developments which positively impact the neighbourhood around them, and Live Unlimited’s provision of skills and experiences that are usually out of reach for children in care is a prime example of this. I can’t think of a more worthy recipient for this donation.”
