Richmond is set to shine brightly this holiday season with an array of free Christmas events brought to life by Be Richmond, the Business Improvement District (BID).
This year’s Be Festive campaign promises to bring holiday cheer to residents and visitors of all ages, featuring Richmond’s annual Christmas Light Switch-On, a whimsical Nutcracker Trail, and an exciting 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway packed with prizes from local businesses.
Christmas Light Switch-On – November 21st
The celebrations begin with the annual Christmas Light Switch-On, transforming Richmond into a twinkling holiday scene.
George Street will be the focal point for the evening’s entertainment, featuring stilt walkers, Clockwork Ballerinas, and Nutcracker characters spreading holiday joy throughout the area.
From 5pm, Riverside Radio will be broadcasting live from the stage in the town centre, introducing performances to add to the festive atmosphere. Skylarks, a local independent charity offering activities for children with additional needs, will be doing a special performance alongside their celebrity ambassador! Adding to the excitement, The Rock choir will join us to lift our spirits with their incredible harmonies, setting the perfect tone as we countdown to the grand switch-on!
At 5.45pm, beloved characters from this years’ Richmond Theatre Pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, will join the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames on stage to officially illuminate the town, creating a dazzling display and marking the official start of the holiday season in Richmond.
Visitors and residents are encouraged to explore the town’s variety of shops, restaurants, and bars as late-night shopping begins. Discover the sparkling Riverside lights or take an annual festive family photo by the Christmas tree.
This year’s grand 26ft Christmas tree is sponsored by local businesses Sticks n’ Sushi, Moore Barlow, and Foot Solutions, which will serve as a festive centrepiece for the town.
Nutcracker Trail – November 23rd to December 24th
Launching on November 23rd, the Nutcracker Trail invites families to explore Richmond on a search for missing Nutcracker figures.
Buddy the Elf will kick off the festivities at Richmond Station on November 23rd, leading the first search parties at 11am and 1pm.
Participants who complete the trail will receive a festive treat and can enter to win a £100 restaurant gift voucher from 144 On The Hill or a Venchi luxury chocolate hamper.
Buddy and his friends will make special appearances again on December 7th and 21st.
