Safestore, the UK’s largest self-storage provider, has secured planning approval for a new self-storage facility with workspace in Belvedere, within the London Borough of Bexley.
The plans will regenerate land at the western end of Belvedere Park that has been vacant for more than two decades, providing convenient and secure storage space for local residents and businesses. Alongside this, the new facility will offer new workspace to local businesses, addressing the current lack of similar spaces in the borough.
Safestore’s new building will help to meet the growing demand for self-storage in the area and support the local economy. Analysis shows that a typical Safestore supports up to 297 direct and indirect full-time equivalent jobs and generates up to £6.9 million for the local economy.
The new Safestore facility will feature 24-hour CCTV security, convenient access, and a variety of unit sizes to suit a wide range of personal and commercial customer needs.
The store has been designed to fit alongside the ‘mixed-use’ buildings at Belvedere Park, which include a combination of residential and commercial properties, plus industrial areas nearby.
The plans will see additional landscaping on site as well as a living green wall on the new Safestore building to increase biodiversity. The development will include many sustainability measures such as energy-efficient systems, smart controlled LED lighting, electric vehicle chargers and solar panels. The new facility will target a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
Mark Taylor, Group Property Director at Safestore, commented:
“We are delighted to be granted planning permission for our new, sustainable Safestore self-storage facility with workspace in Belvedere. This positive planning decision means that Safestore will be able to invest millions of pounds into Belvedere and regenerate a neglected site.
“We’re looking forward to delivering high-quality, flexible and accessible self-storage space for residents and local businesses in Bexley, which will help the local economy to grow and thrive.
