The Business Improvement District (BID) Better Bankside has announced its plans to celebrate International Women’s Day this year, with the launch of its new Bankside Women’s Network.

Taking place on Thursday 9 March, from 8.30-10am, the event will see women in Bankside come together to connect and engage with one another over a breakfast event, focused on equipping Bankside’s women with new skills to help them be a ‘modern female networker’.

Those attending the event will hear from women’s career expert and founder of the successful women’s coaching organisation Step Up Club, Alice Olins, who will be delivering a workshop on how to build your confidence in networking as a modern woman, and how to stay authentic to your true self when doing so. This will be followed by an interactive, speed-networking activity to put new-found skills into practice.

Research from female community group Allbright, has revealed that 57% of women are looking for networking opportunities and 38% are looking for mentors. The Bankside Women’s Network will give women in Bankside a safe space to come together to share experiences, support each other and foster new connections with likeminded people.

Alice will also be joined by Better Bankside’s CEO Nicole Gordon and Borough Market’s Director of Communications and Engagement, Kate Howell, one of the founders of the new network. Nicole and Kate will be officially introducing the Bankside Women’s Network, with a talk about the importance of place-based networks, and will discuss their plans for its members over the coming months.

Created to offer a space of support for women in business in the Bankside area, the new Bankside Women’s Network is the first of a raft of new, inclusive networks being developed by the BID over the next year. Plans to create networks to support Bankside’s LGBTQIA+ community and racial diversity in the area are also underway, with further announcements on these due in the summer.

Nicole Gordon, CEO of Better Bankside said: “Here in Bankside, we want to forge inclusive work cultures, where women’s careers thrive and their achievements are celebrated. This is why, to mark International Women’s Day 2023, we are launching the Bankside Women’s Network. We’re looking forward to welcoming and empowering Bankside’s women through the new network and are excited to be building on this latest development to reach more of Bankside’s people in the coming months.”
