The team at Specsavers Bexleyheath has helped support people experiencing homelessness ahead of Christmas by providing vital sight and hearing care alongside a weekend of festive fundraising.
Working closely with Bexley Winter Shelter, Bexley Women’s Aid and Emmaus Greenwich, the store opened its doors after hours on 9 December to run a dedicated clinic for people in crisis.
The session, held from 6pm to 8pm, created a quiet and welcoming environment for visitors to access essential services including sight tests, OCT scans, glasses, hearing checks, wax removal and hearing devices. Those who attended the clinic received personalised support from the store’s incredible team of optometrists and audiologists.
The store’s support continued across the weekend of the 11-14 December, when the team swapped their uniforms for Christmas jumpers and invited customers to donate to one of the three partner charities.
Collection containers for each charity enabled visitors to choose who they wanted to support, generating important funds.

charities, we were able to reach people who may find it difficult to access routine care and ensure they felt welcomed and supported.
‘The team were keen to make a positive contribution this winter and the response from the community has been fantastic. We’re grateful to everyone who donated and helped us raise funds and awareness for organisations doing such important work locally.’
