Bobby Moore Academy (BMA) in East London is ending the term on a high with the publication of a glowing new Ofsted report.
Ofsted has changed the way it reports on school inspections and no longer issues one-word judgements. Schools are now graded across a five-point scale from ‘exceptional’ to ‘urgent improvement’, with ‘expected standard’ the new benchmark for high-performing schools doing everything they should.
The all-through academy, which is right on the Olympic Park, achieved the ‘strong’ standard in four categories, including early years provision, inclusion, leadership and governance and personal development and wellbeing. All other categories, which include achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching and post 16 provision, achieved the ‘expected’ standard.
Leaders at BMA, part of the David Ross Education Trust, are particularly pleased that inspectors recognised the “open culture” at BMA where “concerns are actively identified, acted upon and managed” in order to ensure “pupils are made safer and feel safe”.
Inspectors also noted that pupils’ behaviour is “calm and orderly”, pupils respect each other and bullying is “never tolerated”.
The early years received notable praise for supporting children to achieve strongly across all areas of learning, with “very well delivered” teaching and an “utmost commitment to inclusion.”
Leaders were also praised for the tangible improvements made over the last two years, with the inspectors mentioning that pupils successfully learn an inspiring and ambitious curriculum.
Personal development was another area of significant strength, with inspectors reporting that: “Leaders have a robust and relentless approach to promoting the personal development and wellbeing of pupils”, including those who are disadvantaged.
Trips to 10 Downing Street and the opportunity to play the piano for a head of state stand out among the opportunities scholars have recently benefitted from.
These are some of the many other significant highlights from the report:
Pupils feel that they can achieve anything that they would like to do.
All pupils are well prepared for the next stages of their education.
Pupils with additional needs achieve at least as well as, and often better than, their peers nationally.
All decisions made by leaders are in the best interest of the pupils and the community
Parents and carers feel that the school knows their children well.
Staff’s professional development and wellbeing are well supported by leaders at the school and staff value the support and care they receive.
Inclusion is seen as everybody’s responsibility.
Sixth form students feel incredibly well supported in their learning. They express appreciation for the high-quality teaching that they receive.
The trust provides robust and rigorous support for the school.
Sarah Donnelly, Principal at Bobby Moore Academy, said:
