RISHI Sunak has been boosted by a four per cent rise in the polls, it emerged today.
Days after he announced his Brexit deal, a People Polling poll for GB News found the Conservatives are now at 24% (up 4% on last week).
Labour is at 45% (down 1) and still commands a 21% lead over the Toris. The Liberal Democrats are on 9% ( up 2), the Greens on 8% (no change) and Reform is on 7% (down 2). The last time the Conservative Party polled 24% in a by People Polling for GB News poll was on December 14, 2022.
Commenting, politics expert Professor Matt Goodwin, said: “It’s too early to know if the tide is turning. But these numbers will please Number 10. If you look across all polls, not just ours, then the average level of support for the Conservatives is up from just 23 per cent to more than 26 per cent. This suggests the Conservative vote is improving slightly, though clearly there remains a very long way to go if they are to close the gap with Labour.”
In less positive news for Sunak, the polling also showed there was no change in view when it came to the preferred party to manage Brexit. When asked which of the political parties will be best at managing Brexit, 17% of the public said the Labour Party and 16% say the Conservative Party.
These results are similar to a similar poll by People Polling for GB News in the beginning of February (February 8-9), where 17% of the public also said the Labour Party and 16% said the Conservative Party.
Prof Goodwin added: “Despite Rishi Sunak’s success in forging a new Brexit deal in Northern Ireland, we find that Labour leads on the Brexit issue – this is another major problem for the pro-Brexit Conservative Party. Yet the real winner is none of the above. We find large majorities of the electorate simply don’t back either party on Brexit.”
