With Saturday 9 October now fully sold out, Brixton Disco Festival has today announced an extra day of festivities and big names on Friday 8 October, taking over Electric Brixton, with a pre-party and stage at Brixton Village.
Norwegian synth wizard & disco demi-god Todd Terje headlines Electric Brixton in a rare London appearance. Terje made his name with a string of remixes and re-edits in the mid 2000s, putting his own spin on a variety of iconic artists including Isaac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, Roxy Music, and even Paul Simon.
His breakthrough to wider success came with the huge crossover success of “Inspector Norse” in 2012, propelling Terje to headline shows around the world including Sonar, a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and being listed at #17 in the Rolling Stone magazine list of “The 25 DJs That Rule the Earth”. The ensuing long player, “It’s Album Time”, followed, with further synth weapons including “Strandbar” and “Delorean Dynamite” becoming two of the biggest club tracks of 2013. “Alfonso Muskedunder” from the album showed Terje had more than just pulsating house in his locker.
In 2017, he was nominated for Record of the Year for the Four Tet Remix of his song “Jungelknugen” at the Electronic Music Awards. Terje has also been a prolific remixer over the years, including remixing the likes of Bryan Ferry, Bombay Bicycle Club, Hot Chip, José González and many more.
In support of Terje, BDF is very happy to welcome Natasha Diggs making her first London appearance post lockdown, after she has developed such an incredible following over the last 18 months with her online sets. Natasha is an NYC based Dj & Producer who has created waves with her diverse musical stylings throughout the globe. Coined the 45 Queen known for rocking crowds with her 45 vinyl sets, she follows in the footsteps of a rich NYC nightlife legacy. For well over a decade Natasha has been digging deeper to provide the soundscape for parties across the globe in cities such as New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Beijing, Prague, Los Angeles and Berlin.
DJ Paulette rounds things off at the Electric. For nearly three decades and over three countries, Paulette has held residencies at some of the most prestigious clubs and best parties in the world, including the Hacienda, The Ministry of Sound, Queen Club Paris, Cocoon Frankfurt, and at Pikes Ibiza.
From radio to bar to club to festivals, from back room to main room, from warm up to headline, she is a champion of great music – digging deep in the crates. Her dynamic and uplifting shows plus her award-winning PR work for Talkin Loud, Mercury Records and work overseas with Radio FG (France) have earned her gold records, awards and plaudits and much international recognition and respect.
As capable of entertaining a club with an 8 hour odyssey or a 10 minute mini mix, Paulette knows instinctively how to read then flip a room. She pays and plays it forward, inspiring a new generation by channelling her energies into youth work, activism, mentoring and radio / dj workshops at conferences, Universities and colleges around the country.
Paulette also spins outdoors at the Brixton Village stage earlier in the evening, in support of the Brixton Village Lates Soundsystem, which includes residents the Handson Family, plus support from Bomba Bomba – a new South London label founded by award winning singer / songwriter Love Ssega and friends. With the intention of creating space for Black artists within electronic music genres and beyond, they will be showcasing exciting rising talent including DJ / producer Usher Lavelle.
