Barratt London has donated £3,000 to London charity, Build on Belief, to help support people who are struggling with, or are in recovery from, substance abuse. Founded in 2012 and operating across seven locations across the UK, Build on Belief provides socially based befriending and support services for individuals who have, or have had, substance use issues. Last year alone, it helped over 32,000 people with its unique combination of non-therapeutic activities and skills learning centre.

The donation has been used to purchase items to support the charity’s most well-attended activities, including Level 2 Kitchen Hygiene courses, Level 2 Infection Control courses, and Hungarian interpreter sessions, as well as contributing to the cost of new laptops. The donation will also go towards ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, to instil confidence in the charity’s service users who speak English as a second language.

In addition to the opportunity to learn transferable skills, the charity offers a variety of non-therapeutic activities, including badminton, yoga and model-making workshops, encouraging its members to learn new skills and engage in meaningful activities.

The charity’s service provision has been curated with the five ways to wellbeing – Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Give – which is evidenced to boost both mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

Karen Brown, Operations Manager at Build on Belief, comments: “Build on Belief aims to provide activities and services that are not provided by other organisations in the sector, at no cost to users. We encourage individuals to not only learn new skills through the various creative, physical and practical activities we offer, but also to use their skills and interests to run activities and workshops for their peers.

“We are extremely grateful to Barratt London for its generous donation, which will ensure that we can continue supporting those struggling with addiction within an engaging and social, and interactive environment.”

James Holmear, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt London, added: “We are proud to partner with Build on Belief to ensure those in our community who are or have been struggling with substance abuse, have the tools to thrive and find the support they need.

“Barratt London is committed to ensuring that all members of our communities feel part of a society that promotes and sustains individual wellbeing, and we thank Build on Belief for their dedication.”

The £3,000 donation comes from Barratt London’s Community Fund, a scheme that donates each month to local charities and organisations, to help the communities at the heart of its developments continue to develop and thrive.
