On Sunday 13th October over 300 locals and budding runners turned out to participate in the annual, Burnham 10k 2024. The run, which is hosted by The Rotary Club of Burnham-on-Crouch and sponsored by the over 55 lifestyle village Burnham Waters, is fast becoming a must-attend event in the local calendar, with a record number of runners participating this year.
The sun was shining and the rain stayed away for duration of the run, which commenced at 10am, starting from Riverside Park. The Burnham 10k 2024 took participants on a varied route, which offered views of the coastal path and took runners through picturesque open countryside as well as through sections of the main streets of the town.
This year’s fastest finishers of the Burnham 10k 2024 were:
Men:
Simon Bateson (00:38:50)
Max Chipers (00:38:54)
Chris Alabaster (00:38:58)
Ladies:
Lucy Helleur (00:46:55)
Libby Watson (00:47:19)
Emily Predebon (00:47:50)
As well as proving great fun for everyone from novice runners to seasoned athletes, the event raised funds for a series of local charities. Profits are shared among local good causes and the charities supported The Rotary Club. This year, charities receiving donations will include The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, Little Havens Hospice and The Sick Children’s Trust.
Burnham Waters, the new over 55s lifestyle community in Burnham-on-Crouch, was very proud to once again, sponsor this popular, annual event.
Neil Yates, President of The Rotary Club of Burnham-on-Crouch and Dengie Hundred, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people turn out for this year’s Burnham 10k run. It is always a popular community event and it is great to see people of all ages and all abilities opting to take part. For us, it is really important that events such as these are also used to raise awareness – and to raise funds, for local causes. This year we are delighted to be able to support the local Air Ambulance, Little Haven’s Hospice and The Sick Children’s Trust. Congratulations to this year’s fastest finishers, who recorded some impressive times, and a huge well done to everyone who took part. We hope you enjoyed it – and we hope to see you back again next year!”
Ian Holloway, Project Director, Burnham Waters added: “We were very pleased to sponsor the Burnham 10k run again this year. Organised events such as these are important, bringing the community together, while helping to encourage people to get out, get active and to make new connections – whatever your age. Thank you to The Rotary Club for yet again, organising such as great event for our local community.”
The Burnham 10k run is an annual event, taking place in Burnham-on-Crouch every October. The Rotary Club dedicates the profits from the run to its chosen charities. However, runners entering the 10k are also encouraged to obtain sponsorship and raise funds for good causes, close to their own hearts.
The Rotary Club would like to offer its thanks to Burnham Waters for sponsoring the Burnham 10k run 2024, as well as the other local businesses who made donations, and for all those who gave up their time to support the event.
