Residents of London are being asked to share their sporting stories and views on which sporting events and collections they’d like to see in the Museum of London’s new home in West Smithfield, set to open in 2026.
Working with Sporting Heritage CIC, the Museum of London is aiming to capture as many views and stories as possible through the release of a short survey to ensure the new museum opening under a new name – The London Museum – reflects the rich heritage and diversity of the capital’s sporting past, present and future.
Dr. Justine Reilly, Director of Sporting Heritage says: “Sport is an integral part of London life. For those who live and work in the city, everyone will have a sporting story to share. It’s essential that we capture the views of people of all ages, backgrounds, communities – whether they play and watch sport recreationally or participate professionally.”
Foteini Aravani, Museum of London Digital Curator adds: “The relevancy of sport to Londoners is crucial in understanding how the story of sport should be told through the new museum and our digital activity. With an impact and influence on society, education, health, and the economy, sport is something that unites us all and we look forward to seeing the suggestions and comments we receive to help shape the London Museum.”
