Mark the date in your diary because Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice’s flagship Mini Marathon will return to Royal Greenwich Park on Sunday 8 May. The charity is appealing to local families to show their support by taking part in this fun-filled and energetic running event.
This popular community event is a key date in the Hospice’s annual fundraising calendar. It gives running heroes the opportunity to get active and have fun, taking on the 2.62-mile route with friends or siblings. All sponsorship raised will help to provide care to people with a terminal illness and their families, in the boroughs of Royal Greenwich and Bexley.
The Hospice Mini Marathon is now in its 9th year and is open to children aged 5 to 16 and of all abilities. They can run, walk or jog the route and younger children must be accompanied by an adult.
Great day out for the whole family
Sponsored by JLL, there will be prizes for the best fancy dress costume on the day, as well as performances from the Rock Choir and appearances from the Pearly Queen of Greenwich, the Pearly King of Woolwich and the Pearly Princess.
Hospice Events Manager Augusta Adu, said: “We’re delighted that the Hospice Mini Marathon is back again in 2022. After such a difficult two years, it will be incredible to fill Royal Greenwich Park once again. We begin at the Bandstand where hundreds of charity runners start their own London Marathon journey so it’s an iconic and inspiring location for our own Hospice Mini Marathon.
“This is such an important event for the Hospice – not only because it is a great day out for the family, but it’s so heart-warming to see hundreds of children rising to the challenge and helping to make a difference in their community. The look of determination and achievement on their faces as they cross the finish line and receive their medal is the highlight of the day.”
