A slice of the big apple is coming to London as Canary Wharf transforms into a New York inspired immersive cityscape. Visitors to Canary Wharf’s Wood Wharf neighbourhood will find break dancers, yellow taxis, NYC pizza, a subway station and even Brooklyn’s famous brownstones to get them in the empire state of mind.
Open to the public and free to visit from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd September, the cityscape has been installed to celebrate the launch of Canary Wharf’s Manhattan style loft apartments at 8 Harbord Square. The collection of 82 apartments, situated on Harbord Square Park, is a fusion on London’s dockside heritage and unique Manhattan loft style living, bringing a sense of the iconic New York State to the Estate.
New York’s famous yellow cabs will greet visitors on Water Street whilst those hungry for a bite to eat can enjoy an American hot dog or NYC-style pizza by the slice served from an authentic yellow school bus. Break dancers will bring a touch of hip hop to Wood Wharf’s street corners, whilst chess tables found in Harbord Square Park will provide a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. With abundant Instagram spots, foodie stalls and stewards that will be on hand to help visitors around Wood Wharf.
Many of the area’s popular restaurants will be updating their menus and offers with a nod to NYC. Californian eatery Feels like June will become an east coast hotspot and rename itself to ‘Feels like Brooklyn’ whilst steak spot Hawksmoor will welcome guests with their signature Apple Martini cocktail and diners at newly opened plant-based paradise Mallow will be able to try a NY inspired menu, featuring the Portobello Mushroom French Dip and Chocolate Cherry Pie. For those looking to take in more of Canary Wharf over the weekend, the chic Tribe Hotel offers a place to rest and recuperate right above all the NYC action.
