Ice Rink Canary Wharf’s Curling Challenge is back for the first time since 2019, with companies, colleagues and friends from across the capital invited to sign up and battle it out on the ice to be named sliding champion.
The tournament is supported by The English Curling Association and will run from 31 January to 2 February. For the first time, anyone can take part, with dedicated public matches in addition to exclusive Canary Wharf tenant sessions. Up to 64 teams of three will battle it out over the three-day competition, with only eight of those teams progressing to the finals on Thursday 2 February.
Each session lasts 55 minutes including 10 minutes for practice. Game slots will take place throughout the day from 10am – 2pm with curling equipment and shoe grips provided to all registered teams on the day of play.
Prizes for the competitive game of shuffle include a reserved area and complimentary bar tab at Off Piste Bar, the Estate’s magical alpine-themed winter bar nestled next to the ice rink. First place will take home a £250 bar tab, with £125 and £75 tabs to the teams who place second and third.
Lucie Moore, Associate Director – Arts and Events at Canary Wharf comments: “We are looking forward to bringing teams from across London together for Canary Wharf’s Curling Challenge. The three-day event is a fantastic way to get out of the office and down to Ice Rink at the start of the year and try something new, and we encourage all abilities and ages to get involved. Whether you work on the Wharf or you’re visiting the area, there’s nowhere better than Ice Rink Canary Wharf to try your hand at curling and compete to be this year’s champions!”
Located in the heart of Canary Wharf, the ice rink is surrounded by over 300 restaurants, bars and stores across five shopping malls – a one-stop-shop for an unmissable winter day out.
More information can be found on Canary Wharf’s new free app, which gives visitors, workers and residents the latest on upcoming events as well as discounts and offers, and lets users buy tickets, RSVP and check-in to events.
Ice Rink Canary Wharf will be open every day until 25th February. Skaters must be aged four and up and skate aids will be exclusively available online. Skaters are urged to book in advance to avoid missing out.
To register, players need to email [email protected] with a team and company name if applicable. Applications close at 12pm on 18 January. There is a £140 charge to book in a team. Team sizes can vary – only three people can play each session, but players can be swapped in and out from a bigger team each day.
