This year’s annual Castle Square Christmas Light Switch-On takes place on Saturday, 29th November, from 12pm to 7pm at Castle Square. Perfect for the whole family, the event will feature delicious food, Santa’s Grotto, carol singing, and plenty of mulled wine, along with live performances from local music and dance groups throughout the day, celebrating the vibrant community in Elephant and Castle.
Enjoy festive tunes from Southwark’s Children Brass Band and energetic performances by the USDD Kids Street Dance Academy, bringing music, movement, and Christmas cheer to the square throughout the day.
Currently on its winter break, The Elephant Market will return for one day only to keep hungry carolers going. Run by Real Food Markets, the market is a curated mix of London and the UK’s finest artisan food producers, street food vendors, and designers. Warm up with a cup of mulled wine, indulge in festive treats, and get an early start on your Christmas shopping with handmade gifts and crafts.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa! Castle Square will host Santa’s Grotto, where Londoners can meet Santa and his elves. Santa will be visiting from 12pm to 4pm, so make sure to have your Christmas lists ready.
Don’t miss the main event: the Giant Christmas Tree and Castle Square lights will be switched on at 5.45pm, transforming the square into a festive wonderland. The evening continues with carols and Christmas music from the Latin American Community Choir and the Elephant and Castle Community Hub Choir, performing from 6pm to 7pm to round off the celebrations.
