Capital City College (CCC) celebrates another sporting triumph as its men’s basketball team has secured victory at the London regional championships for a fourth year in a row.
Robert Murphy, Sports Development Manager at CCC, said: “We are immensely proud of the basketball team’s achievement. Their performance was outstanding, and it’s clear that the extra training sessions have paid off. The team thoroughly deserved this win, and we’re excited to see what they can achieve at the national championships.”
Held at the Leyton Score Centre last week, the tournament saw twelve male teams compete, representing colleges across London. CCC’s team, the Capital City Cobras from the college’s Enfield campus, dominated the competition, winning all their group-stage matches before defeating Barnet and Southgate in the semi-finals and clinching the title against New City College in a thrilling final.
This victory marks the fourth consecutive year CCC has retained the regional championship, reinforcing its reputation as a major competitor in college basketball.
CCC Basketball coach AJ Roberts added: “Credit for the boys showing up and getting the job done. Not an easy task trying to win your fourth regional in a row with all teams aiming to take you out. We will now focus our attention on nationals and try to come back as national champions!”
Other CCC competitors also showed strong performances, with teams from CCC’s Angel and Kings Cross campuses finishing third in their respective groups. Meanwhile, CCC’s women’s basketball team narrowly missed out on the top spot, finishing second after a hard-fought final.
The men’s basketball team from Enfield will now represent London at the national championships in Nottingham this April, aiming to reclaim the national title after their success in 2023.
