Celebrate Cain’s 1,600km Journey on Foot from Barcelona to Battersea

On Wednesday 9 April 2025, London will welcome home Cain Christoforou as he completes an extraordinary journey – running from his hometown of Sant Pere de Ribes, just outside Barcelona, all the way to London to raise £25,000 for inclusive sports charity Access Sport.
Motivated by Access Sport’s mission to give disadvantaged and disabled young people access to the life-changing benefits of community sport, Cain will have run over 1,600 kilometres across France and England – averaging 50 kilometres per day – before crossing the finish line in the capital.
“This challenge has pushed every limit – physically and mentally,” said Cain. “I expected the fatigue to hit early, running six to eight hours a day, and the risk of injury was very real. But knowing the impact this can have on young people who don’t have access to sport like I did, that’s what kept me going.”
Cain’s passion for running developed after moving to London, and the idea for this challenge came after being inspired by a friend’s Atlantic rowing adventure.
“The idea of running from my hometown in Spain to my current home in London just clicked,” Cain shared. “For many children, sport just isn’t accessible – it’s become too expensive, too far, or not inclusive enough. I’ve been lucky. I want to help make sure more kids have the chance to experience what sport can do for them.”
Be There When Cain Crosses the Finish Line
Locals are invited to celebrate the finale of Cain’s remarkable journey at a special community event at Battersea Park Millennium Arena (SW11 4NJ) on Wednesday 9th April, from 6 PM.
Cain will be joined by running club, the Clapham Chasers, for the final stretch, finishing with a scenic riverside run and celebratory lap of the Battersea track. The event is free and open to all.
Helen Rowbotham, Chief Executive at Access Sport said: “Cain’s challenge embodies everything Access Sport stands for – using the power of community sport to change young lives. His dedication, resilience and drive to give more young people the chance to be included in sport is genuinely inspiring, and we’re thrilled to welcome him home in London.”
