Since we are in the midst of this year’s Champions League event, we felt it appropriate to pay homage to the top scorers the tournament has ever seen. All of the top players are still going strong too, meaning that you can watch them, and even bet on them by taking advantage advantages of things like this sign up offer. With breathtaking current records, and amazingly, with numbers still increasing – this is a truly intriguing topic to cover. So, let’s get started, shall we?
We have a feeling that a few of the names here won’t surprise you. But either way, it’s fun to look back and admire exactly what these guys have been able to achieve in arguably, the biggest club tournament in the world.
Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League. Currently, the man has 137 goals to his name, scoring over 100 at Real Madrid during his time there. This statistic gives him a goalscoring ratio of 0.77, which is fairly impressive since this is the highest level of club football in Europe. But putting the number of goals aside, arguably, it’s the moments he is able to step up and deliver goals when his side needs it most that make him the greatest. Of course, this is open to debate, which brings us on to the next man on this list.
Following on from Ronaldo we have the little magician in the form of Lionel Messi. This man needs no introduction to be perfectly honest, and he is undoubtedly one of the most talented football players to ever compete in the Champions League. Currently, Messi has 123 Champions League goals in 152 appearances, giving him a better ratio than Ronaldo at 0.81. With this said, Messi has the most Champions League goals scored at any individual club, having been able to score 120 goals for Barcelona!
When this man is on form, he is capable of executing demolition jobs, no matter what team he is facing. Having bagged 78 goals in 99 appearances, Lewandowski finds himself at number 3 on the list of all-time scorers in this competition. The majority of these goals have come from his time at Bayern Munich, where he has more than 60 to his name right now. The great thing about Lewandowski is that when he plays at his best, he can easily bag 2 or 3 in a single game, which makes him an amazingly prolific striker.
Benzema is nipping at the heels of Lewandowski, with 73 goals in the competition right now. Interestingly, he has scored the exact same number of goals for Real Madrid as Lewandowski has for Bayern, with 61 (at the time of writing). Benzema has also managed to win the trophy with Madrid on multiple occasions, so he is no stranger to Champions League glory. And now that he doesn’t have Ronaldo to back him up at Madrid, which has been the case for several years, he has really shone through as a top-level striker.
