As part of The Childhood Trust’s #BringTheirArtToLife campaign, the charity has unveiled a series of children’s drawings at a public art wall in East London’s The Stage. The mural aims to raise awareness of child poverty in the city, as well as vital funds to support a variety of summer activity programmes for children, including youth clubs, sports centres, and safe places to play.
The featured drawings were created by children from The Winchester Project and Westminster House Youth Club, both of which are supported by The Childhood Trust. The artwork includes depictions of swimming, drama, and playing outside – such simple pleasures that should be accessible to all of London’s children in the summer.
Visitors are invited to scan a QR code on the mural, allowing them to donate directly and help bring these children’s drawings to life this summer. Every contribution will help to ensure that vulnerable children can access essential activities to keep them safe, fed and having fun during the school holidays.
The Great Eastern Art Wall – one of London’s most prominent public art spaces – is hosting the mural thanks to Cain International, a corporate partner of The Childhood Trust. The mural was brought to life by the talented artists at Global Street Art, Europe’s leading mural-painting organisation, with their world-famous work found across London.
Josephine McCartney, Chief Executive at The Childhood Trust, commented: “Summer should be a time of freedom and fun, but for too many children in London, it can bring hunger, isolation, and missed opportunities. This mural is a powerful reminder of what children wish for, and what they deserve. We’re incredibly grateful to Cain International for this opportunity, to the artists at Global Street Art for transforming the children’s drawings into something so impactful, and above all to the children themselves, whose creativity are the beating heart of this campaign.”
Lee Bofkin, CEO and Co-Founder of Global Street Art, said: “We know that murals can stop people in their tracks so this is an important collaboration, using the artwork of London’s children who deserve better, and we’re proud to help bring their voices to the streets of Shoreditch. I’m grateful we had a chance to work with The Childhood Trust and we hope the mural supports their ongoing mission to create real change and better lives for children.”
The Stage is a vibrant mixed-use development in the heart of Shoreditch, which comprises a 40–storey residential tower with 412 apartments and over 220,000 sq. ft. of office space and 60,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
The mural will be available to view at The Great Eastern Art Wall, located at The Stage in Shoreditch, from 2nd May until 23rd May. To find out more, please visit https://www.childhoodtrust.org.uk/bringtheirarttolife/
