This week the City of London Police welcome Angela McLaren, new Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for economic and cyber-crime. Assistant Commissioner McLaren joins from Police Scotland, where she was the executive lead for Organised Crime, Counter Terrorism and Intelligence.
Earlier this year the City of London Police became the national lead force for cyber-crime. This move prompted the creation of a new Assistant Commissioner role to specifically oversee the significantly greater responsibilities the force now holds within the NPCC cyber-crime portfolio, alongside their already extensive fraud remit.
Commissioner Ian Dyson says of the new appointment:
“I am delighted to welcome Assistant Commissioner McLaren to the City of London Police, and look forward to working with her. Our new AC brings with her many years of extensive policing experience following an impressive career in both Fife Constabulary and Police Scotland, where she worked across a number of key operational areas.
“Protecting organisations and individuals from fraudulent activity, including cyber-crime, is a priority for the City of London Police as we look ahead to 2021, and Assistant Commissioner McLaren will be instrumental in what I am sure will be a success.”

Both fraud and cyber-crime present real and increasing threats to communities: this has been particularly evident in the last year, as more people have been confined to their homes, relying on technology to live their lives.
