Taste buds will be tingling when one of the world’s most iconic dishes arrives in the Square Mile on Monday 20 September.
World Paella Day will be celebrated in style in Guildhall Yard – home of the City of London Corporation – from noon until 2.30pm.
Paella is a rice-based dish associated with the port city of Valencia, which lies on Spain’s south-eastern coast.
The London Paella School will be serving up the traditional food, cooked in giant pans under gazebos decorated with colourful banners.
Each paella sale will give £1 to London Community Kitchen and samples will be given out free of charge.
Chair of the City of London Corporation’s Culture, Heritage and Libraries Committee, Wendy Hyde, said:
“Paella is one of the great, iconic dishes of the world and this is a wonderful way to enjoy it in a relaxed atmosphere.
“Hospitality and diversity are at the heart of the City and it’s fantastic to see the Square Mile buzzing again with visitors and workers coming back to the City.
“Culture can play a leading role in our recovery from the pandemic and that’s why events like this are so important to Londoners.”
The City of London Corporation is the fourth largest funder of heritage and cultural activities in the UK and invests over £130m every year.
In partnership with the Barbican, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London Symphony Orchestra, and Museum of London, the City of London Corporation is leading the development of Culture Mile, the City of London’s new cultural district, between Farringdon and Moorgate, building a world-class hub of creativity, innovation and learning.
