Co-op is set to launch its newest store this week (Friday, 28 June) at Grand Union in Alperton, London, a new canalside neighbourhood being delivered by St George, a proud member of the Berkeley Group.

Designed to serve and support the community, conveniently, the purpose-built Co-op at Grand Union will include an instore bakery; Costa Coffee Express and hot food, alongside a focus on fresh, healthy and chilled produce; meal ideas and everyday essentials; sandwiches and food-to-go; Fairtrade products, flowers, chilled beers and award-winning wines; ready meals, pizzas and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

The online home delivery of groceries is available through Deliveroo and Uber Eats – where orders are picked fresh in the local store and delivered quickly and conveniently in the community.

Co-op is also committed to supporting UK farmers, growers and suppliers, with all of its fresh and frozen meat and poultry, including in its ready meals, pies and freshly prepared sandwiches, 100% British.

A soft plastic recycle unit is available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches – ensuring all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable either through local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store recycling unit.

Azar Mahroof, Co-op Store Manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to have the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store, and we are looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors to Grand Union. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community, conveniently. The store also has a focus on delivering value, with member price savings across a wide range of everyday essentials so that the people who own our business, our member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

Taking its name from the historic canal, Grand Union is a 22-acre canalside neighbourhood by St George (a member of the Berkeley Group), which includes an array of resident-only amenities, as well as coffee shops, an Anytime Fitness gym and Peapods nursery, which is open to the public from September.

Marcus Blake, Regional Managing Director at St George, commented: “Grand Union has fast become a destination for the local community in Wembley. You’ll often spot a fitness bootcamp taking place on the piazza, families tucking in to a delicious crepe and a cup of coffee from our historic narrowboat PAVO, or even people Paddleboarding along the Grand Union Canal. We will continue to enhance this by bringing exciting new offerings, public spaces and amenities to Grand Union, such as our new Co-op store, which we are really excited to open this month.

“We know how important it is for our residents to have options nearby where they can pick up their groceries, evening meal or grab a quick lunch that they can enjoy on-the-go or by the water. We’re really pleased to be able to provide this now and we are confident that the community will find the store a fantastic addition to the offerings and amenities that form part of Grand Union.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, and is marking its 180th anniversary this year with its history dating back to 1844. Its member-owners own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation, enjoying a wide number of benefits including member-only price savings across everyday essentials, and personalised offers via the Co-op Membership app.
