Council invites community groups to apply for funding

Forest of Dean District Council is offering ‘not for profit’ voluntary and community groups the opportunity to apply for funding to help develop stronger and more cohesive communities.

Cabinet member for Thriving Communities, Cllr Jackie Dale said:

“Having visited some of the beneficiaries from last year’s Community Grants Fund, I’ve seen the great work that can be done. I know how highly the Fund is valued and what can be achieved for the benefit of residents across the Forest of Dean.

“As one of our key council priorities, we want our residents and communities to thrive, and this funding helps to realise our ambition. We encourage groups working within their local communities who help to provide projects that support and empower residents to apply. Even small informal groups with a minimum of three people can be considered.

“We are holding a series of events around the Forest where you will find further advice and support with your application.”

In line with the priorities listed in the Forest of Dean District Council Plan, the Community Grants Fund is aimed at building capacity of the community, rather than directly delivering services. It will support projects which sustain, strengthen and empower our communities to become more inclusive and resilient.

The funding available to groups for 2025/2026 is £19,800 with one-off revenue grants of up to £3,000 available for constituted groups and one-off grants of up to £500 available for non-constituted groups.

Funding will support projects which reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing and empower people to play their part in our communities. Such projects may include activities which encourage food sharing, community food growing, feasting and learning, projects reducing food waste and seed, tool and clothes share schemes.

Cllr Jackie Dale continued:

“This is another significant funding opportunity, and I look forward to seeing even more creative and inspiring work being delivered across the district in the coming year. I’d like to thank and pay tribute to all our Council officers, staff and local groups for all that they do to support our Forest of Dean communities.”

The deadline for funding applications is 4pm on Friday 30th May 2025.
