Local business, CHOY House has joined the family of street food vendors at Crate Walthamstow within 17 & Central. Serving traditional Chinese takeaway favourites with a Mediterranean twist, they’re a great food addition to the social space.
Established in 2022 by Matt Lo, it’s the second London location for CHOY House, which has another eatery in Greenwich, near the O2.
Matt said: “We were approached by CRATE team after they had tried our food. Having visited CRATE multiple times and seeing its potential, we were keen to move forward.
“We’re looking forward to introducing the community to adventurous dishes that pay homage to Southeast Asian cuisine, while also exploring exciting new flavour combinations.”
Food has always been a big part of Matt’s life. His parents are originally from Hong Kong, and both ran eateries. Matt’s father owned a typical fish and chip shop that also offered kebabs and Chinese takeaway food, while his mother had her own cafe on an industrial estate, which sold English breakfasts and lunches as well as Chinese lunchtime favourites such as chicken curry and rice.
“A keen traveller, I love trying different cultures and cuisines. When I’m abroad, my favourite pastime is to eat from street stalls – I adore fresh, homemade dishes that are easily accessible. I wanted to create the same vibe at CHOY House – a street food setting, serving tasty dishes, fresh from the pan.”
The menu will change every few months as the team try out new dishes. Matt explains: “All our creations are made fresh to order while customers wait. My aim is to have just a few dishes that are done really well and prove popular with our customers. My personal favourite is our chow mein with chicken satay.”
This week, CHOY House is introducing a new dish – the Sweet and Sour Fried Chicken Noodle Box – and to celebrate its launch at 12 noon on Saturday 30 November, the team will be giving away the first 50 boxes for free (one per person).
