Deliveroo has joined forces with one of London’s favourite pasta restaurants to give away 4,000 vouchers worth £10 (from 21.04.23 to 22.04.23) to claim free pasta ahead of the UK’s biggest running event, fuelling runners taking part and go the extra mile.
Runners making their final preparations for the big day after months of training can claim a free portion of pasta this Saturday, 22nd April, on Deliveroo from one of the best local restaurants in London, Pasta Evangelists, based across the city, with 27 restaurants participating in the offer*.
This comes as data commissioned by Deliveroo reveals pasta tops the list of most popular dishes to eat before a long run. In a survey of London runners, 32% said pasta would be their meal of choice ahead of a long-distance race, followed by protein meat and rice.
Spencer Walker, Regional Director of London for Deliveroo, said: “We’re excited to see thousands of runners back on the streets of London this Spring weekend. We’ll be cheering them on and setting them up for success with the help of a free carb-loading dish from our partner, Pasta Evangelists, available to order on Deliveroo ahead of the big run. Spaghetti, set, go!”
The vouchers are redeemable against Pasta Evangelists restaurants based in multiple locations across the whole of London, including Clapham, Dulwich, Camden, Hampstead, Croydon and Walthamstow (see notes to editors for the complete list of locations).
Redeem the voucher against any delicious pasta dishes on the menu, including The ‘Carbonara of Dreams,’ Chicken Cacciatore, Lamb Shoulder Ragù from Sardinia, Sundried Tomato & Almond Pesto (vegan) and many more!
London Nutritionist, Lily Soutter, explains why eating a meal with high-energy properties ahead of a running race is a popular ritual for many runners:
“Carbohydrate-rich foods such as pasta are a primary source of fuel for runners. When carbohydrates are digested, they’re broken down to glucose and stored as an energy bank called glycogen in our liver and muscle cells. The average person can store around 600g of glycogen in their body which provides enough energy to fuel 90 minutes of running. When glycogen stores are low, early fatigue can kick in.
However, we can maximise glycogen stores in the days leading up to a race by carbohydrate loading along with tapering our training. This method is like charging up our batteries prior to a run and is essential for optimal endurance and performance.
Pasta is an excellent meal for runners to order via Deliveroo; not only is it a rich source of those essential carbohydrates, but it’s a quick and easy dish to whip up! With endless flavour combos, there’s a pasta dish to please everyone. For example, Pasta Evangelist’s Chicken Cacciatore provides high-quality protein along with carbohydrates, a perfect combination to boost glycogen stores. Whilst their Sundried Tomato and Almond Pesto dish is a great plant-based alternative. ”
