Bellway London is about to start demolition work on the former Royal Chace Hotel in Enfield to clear the way for a development of 64 new homes.
It comes after planning permission to redevelop the 3.7-acre site off The Ridgeway in Enfield Chase was granted by Enfield Council in January.
The scheme, which has been named Old Royal Chace in tribute to the locally renowned former hotel, will include a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses.
Of the 64 homes being built by Bellway, 41 will be made available for private sale with the remaining 23 being provided as affordable housing for rent or shared ownership.
Ali Maruf, Managing Director for Bellway London, said: “The start of demolition work marks an important stage in the transformation of this vacant land into a community of new homes. The site is in an ideal location for residential development, conveniently situated just two miles from Enfield town centre.
“Although it is now two years since the Royal Chace Hotel closed its doors for the last time, the venue is fondly remembered by many people in the area. Naming the development Old Royal Chace is our way of acknowledging the important role the hotel played in local life.
“Providing the demolition work is completed on schedule, we expect to start construction work on the site later this year and to welcome the first residents into their homes next Autumn.
“The development will provide a mix of houses and apartments to meet the varying needs of first-time buyers, families and commuters, who will experience the best of both worlds. Ideally located on The Ridgeway, residents will be close to the countryside, overlooking picturesque views of Enfield Chase and towards The City.
“Meanwhile, buyers will still be less than 10-minutes from Enfield town, providing easy access to the area’s amenities, including Enfield Shopping Centre, and transport links via Enfield Town Overground station, including train services reaching London Liverpool Street in less than 40 minutes.
As part of the wider scheme on the former hotel site, a 102-bed care home facility being delivered by Signature Senior Lifestyle will also be built on the land.
The first homes at Old Royal Chace will be available to buy in Spring 2023.
