Discover why vegetables are Sow Awesome at RHS Gardens this May Half Term

The Royal Horticultural Society is inviting families to discover the joys of planting and harvesting vegetables, this May half term, with a week of fun family activities at each of the five RHS Gardens.

The half-term event is jam-packed with activities that will enlighten visitors on the joys of grow-your-own. From seeds and soil, and field and vine, then onto our plates – learn where fruit and veg come from and grow your very own edible feast.

Activities vary across the five RHS Gardens – please see further details below and check the website for more information:

RHS Bridgewater, 27 May – 4 June

Visit the Kitchen Garden to spot food growing in its natural environment and take home your own packet of seeds. Join the Vegetable Nannies for their walkabout theatre, and get stuck in with The Mini Makery, whose workshops are all about encouraging children to feed their ‘gut pet’ rainbows!

RHS Harlow Carr, 27 May – 4 June

Follow a trail to find the Fruit and Vegetable Superheroes, pot up your very own tomato plant to take home, and join the Garden Detectives for Edible Garden Tours or take part in the Veg Olympics. From a potato & spoon race, to a leek relay race and cabbage shotput – there’s something for every athlete!

RHS Hyde Hall, 27 May – 4 June

Discover the Fruit and Vegetable Superheroes on a family trail and find out how you can grow them at home. Take part in an interactive storytelling walk around the Garden with Mike Dodsworth, and get stuck in with seed sowing workshops.

RHS Rosemoor, 27 May – 4 June

Discover the amazing powers of growing vegetables at home on a family trail, and find out the myriad ways they can be used besides eating. Make some wildflower seeded paper to create your own greetings card that can be planted to make a wildflower meadow. Take little ones to story time where they will be entertained by a local author.
