DOMINIC Raab’s resignation could see a flood of complaints against ministers, according to MP Philip Davies.
Speaking on GB News, he said: “What I wonder here is about actually the paragraph in Dominic Raab’s letter where he says in setting the threshold for bullying so low, the enquiry has set a dangerous precedent that will encourage spurious complaints against ministers and have a chilling effect on those driving change on behalf of your Government and ultimately the British people.
“I just wonder how much this will be seen as a watershed moment in terms of how ministers can actually govern, how ministers treat civil servants and whether or not Dominic Raab is right in what he says in that the threshold for bullying has been set so low.
“I wonder whether or not this could lead to a spate of other complaints going in about other ministers, because I suspect that if the threshold has been set so low there will be other examples out there as well.”
Fellow MP and GB News co-host Esther McVey said Raab’s resignation may mean that attention falls on former Business Secretary Sir Alok Sharma.
She said: “There were reports last week about Alok Sharma, that he was calling up staff who we hadn’t previously warned, unannounced, he was calling up staff who were working at home.
“They were saying they found this as a form of bullying, so already Alok Sharma is under the spotlight, another cabinet minister.”
Esther said several names have been suggested as Mr Raab’s replacement in his dual role of Justice Secretary.
She said: “Victoria Atkins, maybe Victoria Prentis, maybe Lucy Frazer, maybe Alex Chalk, but they said they might want a woman.”
