Pupils at Southborough Primary School in Bromley, part of The Pioneer Academy Trust, are delighted by the brand new outdoor early years area in their school playground.
This year’s new cohort of children are excited to dress up and perform on the stage, dig in the giant sandpit and play music on the ‘moveable music’ – large xylophones and outdoor bass drums – and they can pump water around the new water feature.
New planters are also a feature, so the children will see their playground grow.
Timotay Playscape designed and installed the new area which includes the finest quality natural redwood timber for the playground equipment.
Tahlia, a pupil, said: “I love the new garden! I can run fast, dig in the mud and play with my friends. It’s my favourite bit at school.”
Parents have also praised the new outdoor area, with one parent, Jodie, saying:
“It’s great to see investment in early years. It shows that Southborough are setting a really high standard for children right from the start. The new outdoor space is fun and safe, and it’s helped my daughter quickly get engaged, settle in, and adapt to school life.”
Another parent added:
“Noah loves the outside area. He always mentions about the sandpit and how much fun he has even playing music out there! He also loves all the colours.”
A first-time mum also praised Southborough:
“Sending my first born to ‘big school’ was daunting however we came across Southborough school and we knew from seeing the school, especially the reception classes and the new outdoor area, that my child would love going to Southborough. He has settled in very well and the highlight of his day is use of the sandpit.”
Melody Berthoud, Head Teacher at Southborough Primary School, said:
“It is brilliant to see our new pupils exploring their new area and gaining confidence as they do so. We are delighted to see how happy they are while playing and learning together outside.”
Lee Mason-Ellis, CEO at The Pioneer Academy, said:
“We believe that all children deserve the best learning experience possible and outdoor learning is an excellent way to ensure that their experience at school is enriching and enjoyable from day one.
“It is such a joy to see the children enjoying being outside, being curious and inspired by the world around them.”
