As the nation gears up for a summer of love, eBay UK is inviting fans to step inside the Love Island shared wardrobe for the very first time. With the ‘Nation’s Shared Wardrobe’, guests will browse iconic Islander pieces, select a pre-loved item inspired by Villa fashion to re-wear, and get styled by eBay’s Pre-Loved Style Director Amy Bannerman.
From Tasha Ghouri’s yellow Versace two piece re-worn by Olivia Hawkins, to the red Jean Paul Gaultier co-ord worn first by Tasha Ghouri and then by Liberty Poole, the Islanders love to share and re-wear. Now that fans can access buying and selling pre-loved fashion for free on the platform, eBay is encouraging the nation to take inspiration from the Islanders and embrace re-wearing.
Sharing fashion is a growing trend with 60% of 18-34 year olds borrowing each other’s clothes – and more than a third (35%) of Gen Z shoppers are more open to doing so than they were a year ago.* More than a quarter (27%) of Gen Z share clothes with their friends, while 16% borrow from their partner’s wardrobe (yes your boyfriend’s shirt can make a great oversized dress) as it’s cheaper than buying something new (25%).*
eBay UK is opening ‘The Nation’s Shared Wardrobe’ on Wednesday 5th June in Shoreditch, giving fans an exclusive look at the Villa wardrobe experience.
How it works:
Attendees are encouraged to bring an item they’ve previously worn but no longer love, and get a ‘new to you’ pre-owned item from the wardrobe.
eBay’s Pre-Loved Style Director, Amy Bannerman, will be styling attendees in an item they love with fashion including House of CB tops and Rat & Boa dresses.
Ticket holders will also get a first-hand look at a number of iconic archive pieces worn by Islanders on the show.
eBay’s Pre-loved Ambassador and Islander Tom Clare will be opening the wardrobe, and a Colourologist will also help fans look and feel their best.
For the full Love Island experience, guests can bring along their bestie.
Tickets will be rolled out over the coming days HERE for fans to book a slot. For those who can’t make it, head to eBay.co.uk – the nation’s actual online shared wardrobe – to shop Islander-inspired outfits on a dedicated Love Island fashion hub from 27th May 2024.
This comes on the heels of eBay UK’s announcement that it is now free to buy and sell pre-owned clothing and meets the demands of almost three quarters (71%) of Gen Z who are now buying pre-loved fashion.*
With the average shopper sitting on £400** of unworn clothes, this Love Island season, the marketplace is urging the nation to make the most of free selling, cash in on unwanted items, and fund something they will instead love and wear. ‘The Nation’s Shared Wardrobe’ builds on eBay’s pre-loved fashion experience going live earlier this year, including AI-powered listings and personalised shopping feeds. Making buying and selling pre-owned fashion easier than ever.
eBay’s Pre-Loved Style Director, Amy Bannerman said: “Seeing amazing pre-loved pieces re-appearing each season – like the men’s tie dye Stussy Jacket, the blue latex Versace dress, and the Rat and Boa dresses – is such a joy.
By opening up the coveted Love Island wardrobe to fans, we’re proving the power of circular fashion.”
To help shoppers discover the joy of re-wearing and re-sharing, Amy Bannerman, eBay’s Pre-Loved Style Director, is sharing her top tips:
Make the most of sharing with friends – It’s like shopping but in your bestie’s wardrobe (and free)! Why not get the most out of the experience, by putting some music on and having a try-on session together?
Experiment with new styles – If your friend has a different aesthetic, embrace this. Try out something you wouldn’t typically buy by borrowing it and you never know, you might end up loving it.
Delve into their treasures – Ask the person you are sharing pieces with the story behind the item and see where they wore it before. You could suggest how you might style it, in case it inspires them to rethink how they wear the item.
Make it clear the condition you’d like the item returned – Let them know how it should be returned, and if they should wash it or have it dry-cleaned depending on the item of clothing.
Share with someone new – Once you’re done with sharing amongst friends and housemates, especially now it’s free to sell pre-owned fashion on eBay, go list your unwanted gems to find someone else who will love them.
