Egyptian Chef and entrepreneur Ramy Abdelrehim will open his first restaurant in London on 1st August making his childhood dream a long-awaited reality. Koshary Kitchen brings a brand-new street food concept to South London celebrating Egypt’s crowning dish – Koshary.

Said to have fuelled North African revolutionaries, Koshary is the ultimate soul food for casual dining with friends with a ‘bowl me happy’ vibe. Customers build their own Koshary bowl from a base of healthy grains and rice; add a layer of meat, fish or plant-based proteins, sauce it up with a range of tangy, hot and classic options and a final flourish of crispy, fresh toppings. They can even order a dinosaur egg on the side – an egg soaked in tea to give it a distinct Jurassic appearance.

Ramy has developed a secret new formula for the dish creating a fresh new take on the classic, and destination restaurant for Lockdowners hungry for something different. Koshary Kitchen will open at the iconic open air Boxpark site in Croydon, fast becoming the hottest new food quarter in the city.

Ramy said “Koshary Kitchen will unleash a brand-new Egyptian eating experience for Londoners to lift their spirit, awaken their taste buds and fill their bowl with healthy, happy and comforting food.

This a moment of intense pride and honour for me and my family. To bring a taste of Africa and introduce more cultural diversity to the food scene here in South London.”

As a boy, visiting Egyptian food markets with his father, Ramy dreamed of one day serving the food he loves to the world, and spent his youth travelling the globe to research street markets and restaurants. Moving to England, he even based his university project on street food, researching the growing trend across the UK. His dreams of owning his first commercial kitchen have now come alive with the launch of Koshary Kitchen 4 years later. Now a father himself, Ramy, 35 and his Norwegian wife Marit have will open the Koshary Kitchen doors at Saturday 1st August from 10am and will open daily from 10am – 10pm.

Ramy continued “We were ready to open in March and we have had to be patient and wait for the lockdown restrictions to ease. The anticipation has been building for over 3 months and we have had so many queries about the opening. Now at the last the wait is over!”
