Elderly cats in RSPCA care in London searching for retirement homes

The RSPCA is appealing for special homes for two cats hoping to settle into their forever homes for their final years.

Mini is an 11 year old white and tabby male cat with three legs who is a tough cookie but also shows a softer side.

Georgina Holding, rehoming coordinator at RSPCA Friern Barnet Adoption Centre says: “Mini came into our care with a very badly fractured leg. Unfortunately due to the extent of his injuries, he had the leg removed. Mini has adapted really well to life on three legs and he is completely fine to explore outside once he settles into his new home.

“Mini has quite deep set eyes, so he may need help with cleaning his face from time to time. He needed to have a biopsy on his ear due to some crusty lesions on his ear so he has had the tip of his left ear cut off. The results came back as nothing to worry about but he may need some cat friendly sun cream on his ears and nose to protect him from the sun.

“He is a healthy and happy boy who enjoys life to the full. He likes some sunshine so would prefer some outdoor space. He’d love space to be himself and have alone time, but also has a softer side and loves to play with toys”.

Liam is a 13 year old male tabby. He’s very confident and curious and has boundless energy for his age! He was rescued by an RSPCA animal rescue officer after being left at a property when his elderly owner went into hospital.

He needs experienced owners with no visiting children and would need to live alone without other cats.

Georgina says: “Liam loves to be around people, and will greet you on return home! He prefers to be with people but can also enjoy his own personal space, so he can sometimes prefer to be left alone to watch the world go by. He’d make a lovely cat for a household with some outside space and lots going on to entertain him as he sits on his favourite chair.

“Liam was ill when he came to us, he was underweight and dehydrated. He had to have one of his thyroids removed and this has managed his hyperthyroidism. He will need checks with his vets once every six months to check his thyroid levels and possible kidney and liver functions with routine blood tests.

“Liam is loving life, he is in great health, has put on healthy weight and loves to eat. We would love a home for Liam to spend his retirement in, sleeping the day away but also having his new family around for him to interact with. Liam would like to have outside access where he can sun himself in the warmer months”.
