From Saturday 20 December, customers travelling to central London will benefit from four extra Elizabeth line trains running each hour on Saturdays, making it even easier to experience everything the capital has to offer.

In response to increasing demand for weekend leisure travel, 20 trains per hour – one train every three minutes – will run between Whitechapel and Paddington. The additional trains will mean more frequent services to stations such as Bond Street, close to Oxford Street, the capital’s most iconic high street, and Tottenham Court Road, a short walk from London’s famous West End theatre district.

The additional services will run between approximately 11:00 and 20:00 each Saturday, with two additional trains per hour travelling from Abbey Wood and two per hour from Gidea Park. Outside of these hours, the existing timetable of 16 trains per hour is unchanged.

To ensure the increased timetable runs at consistent intervals, some existing services between 11:00 and 20:00 on Saturdays across the Elizabeth line will be re-timed. Customers are advised to check before they travel online at TfL.gov.uk, or on the TfL Go app.

Trish Ashton, Director of Rail at TfL, said: “The Elizabeth line is the UK’s most popular railway service, with around 800,000 journeys made every day. Whether enjoying an afternoon of shopping, or seeing a show in the West End, we’re really pleased that customers travelling on Saturdays will now benefit from more frequent services from the eastern branches into central London. As with all timetable updates, we recommend checking your journey before you set off, on the TfL Go app, or at TfL.gov.uk.”

Since opening in 2022, the Elizabeth line has had a transformational effect on travel in London and quickly become the UK’s single busiest railway service, with an average of 800,000 journeys now made on the service each day. The line connects key destinations from east to west, including Heathrow with Paddington, Tottenham Court Road and Liverpool Street, making it a popular choice for those travelling to Heathrow Airport. Elizabeth line trains have four dedicated wheelchair spaces in the fifth carriage, close to the doors to allow quick boarding. Ten multi-use spaces are on each train for those travelling with buggies, luggage, and cycles.
