TOMORROW’S Andy Murrays are acing it at Conway Lawn Tennis Club thanks to backing from sports-minded opticians.
Specsavers Palmers Green, which is locally owned and run, has partnered with the club to support its Junior Tennis Programme.
Established three years ago, the current programme welcomes players aged eight to 18 and comprises three teams – the Minis, Tots, and Juniors – who now make up nearly a third of the club’s membership.
The funding from Specsavers Palmers Green is contributing to essential court time, professional coaching hours, and wider development opportunities for players in the programme, facilitating the continued growth of the next generation of players.
Graham Sievers, chair at Conway Lawn Tennis Club, says: ‘We are so grateful to Specsavers Palmers Green for their ongoing support. Their contribution allows us to continue expanding our junior programme, giving children the chance to build skills, confidence, friendships, and a love for the sport.
‘As a key initiative, we are proud that our junior teams regularly finish in the top two or three places in their leagues, and Specsavers’s support is valuable in sustaining this success and enabling the programme to grow from strength to strength.’
Specsavers Palmers Green also recently sponsored the club’s Centenary Festival Day, providing funding and promotional backing to mark the 100-year milestone and help raise £2,400 for local community causes.
Graham adds: ‘Specsavers Palmers Green helped us deliver an unforgettable Centenary celebration – despite the torrential rain in the morning. Once the skies cleared, hundreds of locals filled the club to watch our Finals, enjoy live music, and tuck into a BBQ. The Specsavers stand, right in the middle of the action, was busy all afternoon with people asking about their eye and hearing services.’
The opticians are also partnering with the tennis club on its next community project – Conway Cinema Paradiso – scheduled for November.
Jas Nagra, store director at Specsavers Palmers Green, says: ‘We’re honoured to sponsor Conway Lawn Tennis Club’s junior programme. At Specsavers Palmers Green, we’re committed to giving back to our community – not just through expert eye care but also by championing local talent.
‘It was fantastic to see the community come together for the club’s special Centenary event last month, and we were delighted to play a part in making it a success. We’re looking forward to the club’s Conway Cinema Paradiso being just as much fun, and we have no doubt it will be.’
