London Transport Museum in Covent Garden is opening its doors after-hours on Friday 17 November for a Museum Late inspired by its Global Poster Gallery – a brand-new space dedicated to poster art that is showcasing a selection of amazing works of graphic design from the Museum’s collection of over 30,000 transport posters.
Ticket holders for the ‘Posters and Posers’ Late can peruse the new gallery and its inaugural exhibition, How to Make a Poster free from crowds at this adults-only night. Guests will also have the chance to explore the rest of the Museum’s collection with drink in hand, get stuck into a variety of craft workshops and activities, plus join expert talks and tours of the new gallery.
At the ‘Posters and Posters’ Museum Late, you can:
Get creative in a zine-making workshop with Kazvare Made It, and craft a mini publication inspired by humorous travel etiquette advice on historic transport posters.
Join Matt Brosnan, Head Curator at London Transport Museum and creator of the How to Make a Poster exhibition for his highlights tour of works not to be missed.
Design and print a retro poster, learning collage and printing techniques along the way. With designer Samantha Foley from Scene in London.
Put pencil to paper and find your muse in a life drawing session hosted by the Bare Life Art collective, who’ll be inspiring guests to put playful twists on iconic posters from the Museum’s collection.
Learn about the life and work of one of the most prominent poster artists of the 20th century – Abram Games – in a talk from his daughter and biographer Naomi Games. Listen to Naomi discuss her father’s career and work for London Transport, then see his vibrant artworks up close in the exhibition.
Get a rare insight into the process of modern poster design and commissioning with experts Jon Hunter, Head of Design at TfL, and Sau-Fun Mo, Head of Design at London Transport Museum. They’ll shed light on the fascinating journey from concept stage and tough decision-making to witnessing the design go live on the transport network.
Weave through the Museum’s galleries on a digital trail that combines co-ordinates with line-drawing to reveal a mystery poster. Choose from easy, medium and hard, and learn some transport facts along the way.
